So on Friday morning - i sent over all the information to Ilex for this book proposal - after a week of e-mailing people and begging them to join in - i think i finally managed to get a selection of good pics :D hopefully the book will go through and they will all get published - yay!!

My Parents and sister (and her boyfriend) went home today :( but it was nice seeing them. I hope to get down to see them sometime next year. the problem really is - that its very expensive. I wonder if it'd be better / easier to go from Portsmouth to East Croydon --> East Croydon to Bedford. Then we could have a bite to eat an maybe a look around Croydon before moving on - but to be honest i don't fancy dragging a suitcase behind us.

Book News - On Tuesday i got an E-mail from Tim Pilcher from Ilex Publishing...

Dear Simon,

Please allow me to introduce myself I am the commissioning editor for Ilex Press. I know you contributed to our title Surreal Digital Photography 2 and the reason I am writing is that we are currently putting together our new list of titles and we are planning to publish a book provisionally entitled, Surreal Photography: A Fresh Perspective. I was hoping you'd be interested in writing and contributing to this book for us. Obviously, I am aware of your work and with your extensive experience and artists and photo manipulator contacts we felt you'd be perfect for the book.

Essentially, the book would be a showcase of creators working today in this field. Each image would have some commentary by the artists about the subject matter or how/why they created it. The book would focus on photo manipulated images rather than entire pics just painted in Photoshop, as that would be too similar to another book we are doing. We would promote the artists' website and put their contact details in the back as well as giving a copy of the book to every contributor. To give you an idea of what we are currently working on I have attached a PDF of Comic Art Now, a similar showcase book. In this line we have also done one on Fantasy Art, Erotic Fantasy Art and a forthcoming one on Gothic Art (which you might want to contribute to).

At the moment I am putting together proposal blad that will be shown to our prospective publishing partners. If you are interested I would be grateful if you could reply as quickly as possible as I need to put some information together in the next few weeks. What we would need from you would be a some text and images so we can design a presentation document (a "blad"). At this stage we don't know whether the book will actually happen, but if you are able to help us now then you'd be the first choice author on the actual publication and we are prepared to pay you for the work on the blad now. I can send you a brief Concept Document and Table of Contents, to give you an idea of the book, but this is in no means written in stone.

If you have any questions please do not hesitate to contact me, it'd be appreciated as we need to move very quickly on this and if you could get back to me with a provisional yes or no by Thursday 6 September, it would be greatly appreciated. I saw that you were looking to write a book of tutorials, but hopefully I'd be able to tempt you with this offer! If you are unable to work on the blad I would be extremely grateful if there was someone else who you would recommend, who maybe able to write the book.

I look forward to hearing from you very soon.

Best wishes,

Tim.

can i ask - why do you have a copyright notice??

*KamPhoto

Why not to have one?

~rev-Jesse-C

fair enough :D i just don't see how this would stop people stealing your work.

*KamPhoto

In your comment I see a certain resignation. A thief is a thief. But he/she is warned. Are you thinking of stealing? Or are you looking for a way to protect your work?

~rev-Jesse-C

Hahaha - yep i'm gonna steal all of your pics and sell them :D

No i just feel - that if your going to display your work publicly, then thats the risk you take. personally i don't mind/care if people take/download my work. not for selling you understand (not that's ever going to happen), but if people want to use one of my pictures as a desktop / layout etc then they are more than welcome.

For years now i've seen my pics popping up here and there and it only makes me feel proud that someone would want to display my work on their website.

but thats just my opinion

*KamPhoto

Would you like to display one of my work somewhere?
Why would you not let me know it before doing so?
This is the basic understanding amongst good mannered people.

~rev-Jesse-C

no - i don't want to display any of your work.

Ever feel like your beatingyour head against a brick wall! :o)

I was just looking at a persons gallery on DeviantArt. Every so often he uploads a message followed by a huge "copyright" notice. I just don't get it. If his work was out of this world - then yes - fine people might want to steal it. But a notice isn't gonna stop that! :oS

In other news - School starts again tomorrow - yay!

So - today is a new day.

Yesterday i spent most of the day rebuilding the computers OS and program files. luckily i had already backed up my important files. It's nice having a bit of clear out, makes everything run nicely again and a bit quicker too. granted i lost all my personalised settings in Photoshop - but with a bit of luck i can get them back again.

Now i'm a bit of a loss what to do in this Blog, I've had one or two before that have been a bit of fun - but i'd like to carry this one on and add stuff daily. I think this will be party diary, part rant, part Photoshop tutorial thing.

I've been playing with the idea of writing a book for a while now - i've had lots of work published and have been interviewed by a few people/websites - which was fun :D
