A while ago i was reading up on Linux Ubuntu (http://www.ubuntu.com/) and really liked what i read, a free open source OS that has a nice looking GUI. I Started with Version 9.04 and had no real problems, i could even get the Boot menu to automatically select Windows (thanks to the Startup Mamager) so other memebers of my family didnt boot into Ubuntu and not know what to do :) Then Version 11.04 came out a while ago, i quite like the new interface which has a bar of icons down the left handside of the screen rather than the "Windows-esc" menus (although you can go back to that interface if you want).
Anyway with 11.04 also came Grub2, this was a new Startup menu would automatically select Linux to boot into rather than Windows. Not a problem i thought i'll use Startup Manager again to select the default OS, sadly this didnt work (aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhg) so each time the computer rebooted or started up i had to make sure that Windows was selected not Ubuntu. Well after some research and experimentation (all which failed i might add) i found a wedsite called "How to geek" and tucked away there was the answer to my problems...Grub Customizer. to read the article look here http://www.howtogeek.com/howto/43471/how-to-configure-the-linux-grub2-boot-menu-the-easy-way/
Essentially if you use Linux and want to install the Grub Customizer then first open a terminal window then enter: -
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:danielrichter2007/grub-customizer
sudo apt-get update
sudo apt-get install grub-customizer
The Grub Customizer will then allow you to remove unwanted items from the boot menu and select the default OS :D woo hoo! just hope things don't change with the next update next month :D
